The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported that the productivity of natural gas in the country continued to improve in 2019. EIA finds that new natural gas wells have higher efficiency, which helped the production increase last year.
The average new well drilled in 2019 in the Permian, Haynesville, Eagle Ford, Niobrara, and Bakken regions have better productivity compared to wells drilled in the prior year. According to EIA, this trend has continued for 13 successive years.
According to EIA, initial production rates increase partially, due to better drilling methods, such as the increasing prevalence of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. Producers also managed to inject more proppant and drill longer horizontal wells which result in higher natural gas output.
