AlwaysFree: EQT Foundation Distributes Nearly $3.8 Million In 2022

Author: SSESSMENTS

According to the company’s website news release on February 13, 2023, the EQT Foundation, the philanthropic extension of EQT Corporation, the nation's largest producer of natural gas, announced the 2022 year-end giving of nearly $3.8M to various nonprofit partners across the Corporation’s footprint.

The EQT Foundation focuses its giving on areas of greatest community needs, including education and workforce initiatives, community and economic development, and environmental programs. Of the total amount awarded, nearly $3.2 million was distributed to nonprofits in the form of grants, $230,000 was awarded in scholarships and the remaining $400,000 was to satisfy the EQT employees matching contributions program.

“We are incredibly honored to be a partner with so many nonprofits across Appalachia as they work to deliver programs and services to our communities,” said Ellen Rossi, President of the EQT Foundation. “The nonprofit sector is stronger than ever. In fact, this year we saw a 50% increase in asks to our Foundation, allowing us an opportunity to support many new agencies and innovative programs.”

Included in programs supported by the Foundation in 2022 were:

  • West Virginia: A total of $60,000 was distributed in support of local food banks in West Virginia, including the Mountaineer Food Bank, Five Loaves Food Pantry in Wetzel County, and the Mannington Food Pantry and Clothes Closet in Marion County. The funds will be used to ensure that healthy and fresh food is accessible to those most in need across northwestern parts of the state.
  • Greene County: A $100,000 grant was awarded to The Way Community Center of Greene County, a new center under construction in Waynesburg that will serve as a hub and outreach center for all in the community and supply a space to foster intentional relationships. EQT’s support will help support the build-out of the Community Kitchen, which will be at the heart of many of The Way’s programs. The center is expected to open this summer.
  • Lycoming County: A $50,000 grant was awarded to Ducks Unlimited to help restore 70 acres of degraded wetland habitat at Sylvan Dell Wetland area near Williamsport. The restoration project will be done in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Southside Recreational Authority. The goal is to restore the area for recreational use.

Additionally, through the EQT Corporation employee matching contribution program, the Foundation awarded more than $400,000 in matches to the nonprofits that mean the most to EQT’s Qrew. This included more than $320,000 in matches made by employees on Giving Tuesday when employee donations are doubled by the Foundation.

Since its inception in 2003, the EQT Foundation has awarded more than $74 million to nonprofits that make a difference in the lives of the individuals and families they serve.
