Evian bottled water company reached a new milestone aiming in the direction of circular economy, a 100% recycled water bottle. All Evian bottles are recyclable, and on average around 40% of Danone’s portfolio is now made from 100% recycled plastics (rPET). The aforementioned bottles are available in the UK, Switzerland, Belgium, France and Germany.
Evian announcement stated that the carbon emissions in the production process is reduced by 50% when plastic recycled to a new bottle compared with virgin plastic bottles productions. Shweta Harit, Evian’s Global Vice President of Marketing said that the increasing demand for rPET encourages better recycling systems to reduce plastic waste in nature and stays in the economy. Haris added that in Evian, they encourage everyone to optimize the usage of nearby collection points, ensuring all used bottles recycled to become new bottles, while keeping the virgin plastics usage to a minimum. The brand is also aiming to become fully circular by 2025 and providing maximum sustainability for their bottled mineral water. Evian was also certified carbon neutral by Carbon Trust earlier this year, following the significant improvement in the product’s life cycle at every stage, from production, distribution, to the renewal energy usage.
Evian bottles caps and labels are not produced from rPET, but oriented polypropylene (OPP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) that is used to preserve water purity and quality for consumers, but both are recyclable. Evian encourages their consumers to recycle all Evian bottles to the correct stream in their local recycling listings so that the bottle can be reused. The brand also launched a higher volume bubble dispenser that is collapsible and made by 66% less plastic than a typical 1.5 liter water bottle, with an approximate volume three times the typical bottle.
