German petrochemical producer, Evonik Industries AG, expects its worldwide circular plastics program to generate additional annual sales of more than €350 million ($414.6 million) by 2030. The company offers additives and technologies that can improve the efficiency of mechanical and chemical plastic recycling. It also plans to increase the use of sustainable raw materials from circular sources in its own production processes.
Evonik is working to improve the efficiency and quality of mechanical plastic recycling. It developed customized surfactants to help remove labels from plastic packaging more quickly without leaving residues. Its defoamers speed up washing processes, while its dewatering agents reduce time and energy use in subsequent drying. It also offers specialty additives that can increase the yield of high-quality recyclates by 5%.
The company is also working on various chemical recycling technologies, including a process to recycle highly-contaminated PET waste. It also develops innovative additives, catalysts, and membranes to increase the efficiency of plastic waste controlled incineration, which produces pyrolysis oil or synthetic gases.
