Former Alaska Governor Bill Walker said that he was one of the founding members of Alaska Gasline & LNG LLC (AGLNG) that plans to take over Alaska’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project.
The LNG project is being developed by the Alaska Gasline Development Corp. (AGDC) and includes an 807-mile (1,300-km) pipeline from the North Slope to a liquefaction plant in Nikiski on the Kenai Peninsula.
AGDC has given green light to the transfer plan of the project to a private entity, which would be selected by the end of this year. The transition is targeted to be complete by June next year.
Previously in 2016, the Alaskan state agreed to take over the LNG project from North Slope oil producers with many companies interested to take part. However, the crash of prices faded those interests which led to AGDC decreasing the estimated cost to USD38.7 billion from the previous expectation of USD44.2 billion.
To assist in advancing the project development, BP Plc and ExxonMobil Corp. have signed agreements with AGDC.
