Indian Ambassador to Iran Gaddam Dharmendra and Head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) Hamid Zadboum met to discuss expansion of trade ties in new areas. The meeting explored expansion of regional cooperation with countries like Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. Ways of developing relations in areas such as rail and road transportation also discussed by both parties.
The regulation of barter trade between the two countries was also emphasized by both countries. While Dharmendra stressed India's commitment to strengthening and developing relations with Iran, Zadboum called for facilitation of the activities of Iranian businesses in India.
On signing a preferential trade agreement in mid-February, India and Iran had held a new round of negotiations. Initiated in 2016, the negotiation on this agreement is said to be in the final stages. In the next round of the talks, both India and Iran hope that the list of the commodity items entitled to preferential tariffs will be finalized.
