ExxonMobil has conducted the initial stage of a plant trial of an advanced recycling process at its facilities in Baytown, Texas. The recycling process breaks down plastic waste into its molecular building blocks and uses them to produce raw materials for polymer manufacturing. The company plans to improve its advanced recycling capabilities at other l facilities worldwide, targeting a circular solution to produce feedstocks from difficult-to-recycle plastic waste, which can be used to produce virgin-quality plastics.
ExxonMobil also announced that it has set up a joint venture (JV) with Agilyx’s Cyclyx International business. Cyclyx will help supply Exxon’s projects with ready-to-recycle plastic waste. If the next phase trials at Baytown were successful, Exxon would use it to produce and market certified circular plastics later this year.
Cyclix is also looking for potential partners to address plastic waste in the environment. These partners can include retailers, brand owners, petrochemical companies, waste management companies, government institutions, and others.
