On Wednesday, ExxonMobil Corp.’s Imperial Oil shut down its Kearl oil-sands mine in northern Alberta, Canada following a pipeline spill.
Previously on Saturday, Inter Pipeline Ltd.’s west Polaris system leaked, and the 240,000 bpd pipeline had to be shut.
The incident underlined the cornered Canadian energy business, which has been struggling with a lack of pipeline infrastructure and competition from shale, being topped by the slumping demand from the US refineries due to the coronavirus pandemic.
