On Tuesday, the US Department of Justice said that ExxonMobil Corp. has agreed to cut air pollution at its refinery near Chicago in Joliet, Illinois.
Under the agreement, ExxonMobil is required to reduce emissions by making operational changes to its sulfur recovery plant. The company agreed to pay more than USD1.5 million in penalties while also undertaking around USD10 million of improvements to slash air emissions.
This arrangement shows that the Biden administration has been showing its commitment to cracking down on big polluters.
