AlwaysFree: Germany’s BASF Registers €600 Million In Extra Costs Due To Surging Gas Prices

Author: SSESSMENTS

German chemical maker BASF registered €600 million ($696.62 million) in extra costs during January-September 2021 due to soaring gas prices. In September, the company said the record gas prices had forced it to curtail ammonia output at its sites in Antwerp, Belgium and Ludwigshafen, Germany. BASF said high gas prices could result in a significant increase in costs going forward and further production adjustments in ammonia and other products. BASF uses gas to generate electricity and produce steam, ammonia, acetylene, and hydrogen.
