AlwaysFree: Germany Breaks Record For Electricity Generation From Wind

Author: SSESSMENTS

According to Bloomberg article published on January 5, 2023, Germany produced a record amount of electricity from wind on Wednesday, helping to reduce the need to burn fossil fuels as Europe battles an energy crisis.

The nation’s wind farms generated 50,232 megawatts, according to data from the European Energy Exchange. Output is expected to decline in the coming days and increase again on Friday.

Much of central Europe is facing unusually mild temperatures, though the weather has been wet and blustery. Cities from Berlin to Warsaw are recording their warmest ever start to January, according to forecaster DWD. That has helped curb natural gas-fired generation, helping to keep stockpiles of the fuel high.

Longterm forecasts for German wind generation in January show normal averages, “depending on the region,” according to Kai Biermann, a meteorologist at DWD.
