Germany ensures that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project poses no threat to the European gas supply.
On Tuesday, the German Economy Ministry said, "In its analysis, the Federal Economy Ministry concludes that granting certification is not threatening the security of gas supply to the Federal Republic of Germany and the EU.”
The ministry has submitted its analysis to the regulator after talks with its neighboring EU countries it had given a chance to consult, which are Italy, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
Until early January 2022, the German regulator would certify the pipeline. A decision on recommendation could still be taken earlier, which would go to the European Commission, which has another two months to respond.
