AlwaysFree: Honeywell UOP Modular Gas Processing Technology Will Be Used In New PETRONAS Carigali Offshore Plants

Author: SSESSMENTS

PETRONAS Carigali Sdn. Bhd, a PETRONAS subsidiary, has been mentioned in Honeywell UOP announcement that the company will use modular natural-gas processing technology by UOP. The technology will be used to develop an offshore gas-purification plant at the Kasawari gas field, located in the South China Sea near Sarawak, Malaysia, with a capacity of 900 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd). The announcement marked the second recent Honeywell UOP project in Malaysia. Last month, Honeywell UOP modular using Chlorsorb technology has just begun operating in Hengyuan Refining Company Bhd.  PETRONAS Carigali will be using specifically included Separex technologies and UOP’s MemGuard, UOP’s acid gas removal technology, also adsorbents in eliminating contaminants; hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide and mercury from natural gas. This upcoming project will be listed as one of the largest offshore treatment systems in the world once the facilities are up and running.

Vice President and General Manager of UOP’s Gas Processing business, Michael Cleveland, the modular Separex technology is suited to process natural gas for power generation in remote locations and production, since it has smaller weight, smaller footprint, increased efficiency and reliability in removing contaminants. The capability enables the plant to free up valuable space in the under sea pipelines bringing gas to onshore from offshore. Other advantages is the technology at the same time also reducing moving parts required in minimum operator intervention.

The processed gas from the offshore Kasawari plants will be delivered with subsea pipelines then processed and liquefied further at the Malaysia LNG complex (MLNG). The finished product from the complex is meant to be exported globally for power generation. Penang’s UOP’s Separex Membrane Manufacturing center will produce membrane system elements. The membrane system by UOP Separex consists of spiral wound membrane elements functioning in vapour phase water and acid gas removal from the stream of natural gas.
