Religious places, shopping malls, education institutions, and public transport are likely to remain shut beyond May 3 when the ongoing lockdown is slated to end, Prime Minister Narendra Modi indicated in a meeting.
Data from the Union Health Ministry showed India registered a record increase of 60 deaths caused by Covid-19 in 24 hours. Based on ground reality, states in India were requested to form their own policies on relaxing the lockdown.
The coronavirus pandemic in the country would remain for a longer time, beyond May 3, Modi indicated. Thus, people are required to continue the use of sanitisers and masks for a longer period.
Air services and full-scale train are unlikely to start anytime soon. However, limited private vehicles may be allowed to ply in the green zones districts.
Depending on the Covid-19 situation, there is a chance of regulated train or air services after mid-May between some designated places. During the weekend, a final decision on lockdown will be taken, officials said.
