AlwaysFree: India Holds Of Anti-Dumping Investigation On MEG Imports

Author: SSESSMENTS

Last year, India’s ministry of commerce and industry launched an anti-dumping investigation on imports of monoethylene glycol (MEG) from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Kuwait, and Singapore. However, the probe was halted after Reliance Industries (RIL), one of the key applicants, requested on November 18 to withdraw the investigation for unspecified reasons. In February, the company also made a request to exclude Saudi Arabia. RIL has an option to resubmit an application to restart the probe.

With a total nameplate capacity of 1.4 million tons/year, RIL is India’s largest producer of MEG, a key feedstock for domestic polyester industry. India’s polyester industry has a total production capacity of 10 million tons/year, the world’s second-largest after China. MEG is also used in the production of PET fibres, PET films, and resins.
