India cuts taxes on retail fuels to ease consumer bills after a spike in global crude oil prices, which pushes gasoline and diesel prices to record high. The federal government will lower excise duty on gasoline by INR5 (6 US cents) per litre and diesel by INR10 (13 US cents) per litre, which will come into effect on Thursday. The country previously resisted lowering duties on motor fuels despite a threat on the demand recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, India joined other oil-importing countries to call on producers for more supplies.
