AlwaysFree: Indonesia Increases Gasoline Imports In September

Author: SSESSMENTS

According to GTT customs data, Indonesia imported 9.207 million barrels (307,000 bpd) of gasoline in September, the most significant increase since April 2020, with total shipments close to the pre-pandemic levels. The figure represents a 17% increase from August but only a 3% rise from the same month last year. For the first nine months of 2020, Indonesia’s gasoline imports stood at around 277,000 bpd, falling from 341,000 bpd in the same period in 2019 due to restrictions on travels placed to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

For September, Indonesia’s gasoline purchases rose 3% month-on-month to 3.5 million barrels for gasoline with a Ron number of 90 or above. For other motor gasoline, presumably with a Ron number of 88, imports increased 28% month-on-month to 5.707 million barrels. Gasoline imports rose in September despite a reduced driving activity after capital Jakarta reimposed coronavirus-related restrictions.

Apple’s mobility data showed driving activity in Indonesia was 8.14% lower than the January 13 baseline despite reaching 3.95% higher than the same baseline in August. In October, driving activity was 3.84% lower than the January 13 baseline.
