On Thursday, INEOS Styrolution announced the availability of mechanically-recycled polystyrene (PS) in Europe, the Middle East, and the Africa (EMEA) region.
The new material dubbed Styrolution PS ECO 44 delivers a PS purity of more than 99.9% and available in white and light grey, and the first available grade is Styrolution PS ECO 440 MR100 WHITE. It is claimed to be suitable across a wide range of applications, including food contact, while also being fully recyclable.
The product conforms with requirements under FC Regulation (EU) No 10/2011, which is based on a layer of virgin PS enclosing the recycled PS.
In EMEA, for 2021, production will hit 1,000 tonnes. The company will grow the volumes in line with its pledge to use on average 30% recycled content in products destined for polystyrene packaging in Europe by 2025.
