Ineos Styrolution and Trinseo are moving forward with plans to construct a polystyrene-recycling plant in Wingles, France. The plant will be the first to use the plastics-to-plastics depolymerisation technology that converts post-consumer PS into its monomer. The monomer from this process can be re-polymerised to produce recycled-PS with on par characteristics of virgin PS. The plant is expected to enter commercial service by mid-2023, with a capacity to process 50 tons/day of PS waste. The two companies are founding members of Styrenics Circular Solutions (SCS) and share a similar mission to use, on average, 30% recycled content in PS packaging in Europe by 2025. They also signed an agreement with fellow PS maker AmSty to advance the circularity of PS.
