AlwaysFree: INPEX Establishes INPEX JODCO Foundation To Strengthen Social Contribution Efforts In The UAE

Author: SSESSMENTS

According to the company’s website press release on January 26, 2023, INPEX CORPORATION (INPEX) announced it has established the INPEX JODCO Foundation with an endowment of three billion yen to help strengthen its social contribution activities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) under the leadership of Representative Director Hiroshi Fujii, who serves as INPEX Senior Managing Executive Officer and Senior Vice President, Abu Dhabi Projects.

The foundation’s creation marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment Japan Oil Development, Co., Ltd. (JODCO), a wholly owned subsidiary of INPEX that has primarily engaged in the development and production of crude oil in the UAE while supporting its core business with social contribution activities in the fields of education, the environment and culture.

The INPEX JODCO Foundation paves the way for INPEX to help strengthen relations and promote mutual understanding and friendship between the UAE and Japan – one of the company’s important missions – through the empowerment of Emirati society and the implementation of activities advocating exchanges between the UAE and Japan.

As the first step of this initiative, the foundation has reached a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the UAE-Japan Falconer Friendship Program with the Emirates Falconers’ Club of the UAE.

His Excellency Majed Ali Al Mansouri, Secretary General of the Emirates Falconers’ Club, welcomed the MOU, highlighting its contribution to strengthening the relations between the two countries in various fields – especially culture and heritage – and noting that Japanese traditions reflect Emirati culture and authentic Arab heritage in many aspects. He added that such areas of interest help strengthen ties between falconers in both countries as well as promote community activities and environmental education programs.

His Excellency Al Mansouri also pointed out the most recent edition of Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX), which was organized by the Emirates Falconers Club last year, celebrated the 50th anniversary of UAE-Japan relations. The Japanese pavilion, which was supervised by INPEX, hosted activities and events that attracted thousands of visitors, especially through falconry shows and the Japanese tea ceremony, in addition to sword making and mounted archery exhibitions.

In addition to promoting cultural exchanges between Emirati and Japanese falconers, the foundation will study opportunities to conduct a variety of activities including: mangrove-themed environmental education programs; nurturing Emirati youth; conserving wildlife in the UAE; and introducing Japanese culture such as the traditional tea ceremony and manga and anime to UAE audiences.

This initiative is part of INPEX’s efforts to strengthen its social contribution activities in the UAE, alongside the launch of a program1 announced on July 29, 2022, that provides scholarships to Emirati students studying in Japan and Japanese students studying in the UAE.

INPEX positions Abu Dhabi as one of its core business areas and will strive to help maintain and strengthen the cordial relations between the UAE and Japan by proactively engaging in the development and production of crude oil and social contribution activities.

About the Emirates Falconers’ Club

The Emirates Falconers’ Club was established in September 2001 with the aim of spreading awareness about the ethics of falconry and its authentic traditions, developing sustainable hunting methods, and preserving falconry as an authentic Arab heritage and a historical legacy that calls for pride in all its characteristics and advantages. For the last 22 years, the club has succeeded, at the regional and international levels, in raising awareness of the value of falconry as a common human art and heritage that brings together falconers inside and outside the UAE. Since 2003, the club has been organizing ADIHEX, the largest exhibition of its kind in the Middle East and Africa.
