On Thursday morning, Indian Oil Corp. Ltd. (IOC)’s Barauni refinery in Bihar, India, got its furnace exploded when it was being restarted.
A burner in one of the furnaces of an atmospheric vacuum distillation unit (AVU) was being lit when that furnace exploded. The refinery was on a full planned shutdown since 20 August.
The incident hurt 19 workers and the cause of the incident is now under technical investigation.
Meanwhile, the refinery operations of the other units remain unaffected.
