AlwaysFree: Iran Expands Production Capacity At South Yaran Oil Field

Author: SSESSMENTS

Iran’s state-owned Pedec has expanded the production capacity of the South Yaran oil field from 20,000 bpd to 25,000 bpd by installing a new mobile oil separation unit. Yaran is divided into a north and south segment and is one of several fields which make up the West Karun cluster located in the Iranian province of Khuzestan, near the border with Iraq. Iran has been focusing on this cluster to boost its total oil production to from the current capacity of the current 3.85 million bpd.

The development in the Yaran oil fields has been planned in two phases. As of June, phase one development saw South Yaran production increase to 20,000 bpd from 15,000 bpd in early 2020. Total Yaran oil production stood at 50,000 bpd in that month, with North Yaran contributing to 30,000 bpd.

There are 12 active wells at South Yaran, and Pedec said it planned to drill another six. Pedec, however, did not provide a timeline for the drilling campaign. In July, Persia Oil and Gas Industry Development (POGIDC) won a $463 million contract from Pedec’s parent entity the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) to carry out the phase two development of both South and North Yaran oil fields.
