Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister Behzad Mohammadi said that the country’s petrochemical capacity will increase sizably in 2020, calling it a golden year for the industry.
Mohammadi stated that 17 petrochemical projects would start operations in the current year to boost production to 80% from the previous 60%.
“We are trying to make the petrochemical industry qualitative by increasing the products such as propylene and identifying its market,” he said.
Iran’s current propylene capacity is 950,000 tpa and accounts for 5% of its petrochemical production portfolio. In comparison, Saudi Arabia’s capacity is 17%, while the US is 18%.
