Iranian boxship Shahraz remained aground near Sambu island, off Batam Indonesia as of 0820 UTC May 12 after colliding with an Indonesian bulk carrier Samudera Sakti I while proceeding in the same direction. The Indonesian ship was refloated at around 1600 UTC May 11 and is currently anchored in Batam. Passing vessels reported that Shahraz sustained hull breach and vertical cracks portside that may compromise its hull integrity.
Vessels from the Indonesian coast guard have arrived at the collision site, but the department has yet to release details of the incident. The collision happened when Shahraz was en route from Malaysia’s Port Klang to Yangshan China, while Samudera Sakti I was heading to Bayah, Southwest Java from Belawan. According to VesselsValue data, Samudera Sakti I is managed by PT. Lintas Maritim Indonesia, while Shahraz is owned by IRISL Group.
