Iranian President Hassan Rouhani attended the inauguration ceremony of three major oil and gas projects on Monday, a local media reported. These three projects are the phase 1 of Bushehr Petrochemical Plant, Iran Gas Trunklines 9 and 6 as well as West Karoun Oil Cluster power plant. The report said that these projects are part of Iran’s push in the industry that is under pressure from the US sanctions.
The 1,850-km gas trunklines are expected to expand gas transmission capacity of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) by 110 Mcm/day, the report said. The pipelines connect Assaluyeh, in the south and Miandoabwill in the northwest. They will help Iran to strengthen gas exports to its western and northwestern neighbours. The Islamic Republic currently exports natural gas to Turkey, Iraq, Azerbaijan, and Armenia.
The first phase of Bushehr Petrochemical Plant is expected to open jobs for 1,500 people and generate more than $435 million a year for Iran. The $1.56-billion complex is designed to process natural gas to produce 6 million tons/year of petrochemical products such as ethylene, ethylene glycol, polyethylene, methanol, acetic acid, and vinyl acetate.
Meanwhile, The third inaugurated project was a power plant and ancillary facilities in West Karoun oil fields cluster. The new facility can generate up to 492 MW of electricity that will provide power to the West Karoun oil fields cluster. The project includes 150 km of transmission lines, a 20 km of water transmission pipeline, as well as 400 and 230 kV substations.
