On Thursday, Japan and the UAE agreed to jointly work on hydrogen technology and establish an international supply chain.
Japan would be able to import UAE’s hydrogen output, likely to be produced from fossil fuel but getting the emissions captured and utilized in industry. The two countries will also work together to spur the UAE’s hydrogen demand.
The ultimate goal is to produce hydrogen using renewable power, along with widening its utilization to include replacing fossil fuel energy in industrial processes and as a transport fuel.
Previously in December, Japan targeted to boost its annual hydrogen demand to 3 million tonnes by 2030 and to 10 million tonnes by 2050 from the current 2 million tonnes.
