According to Interfax article published on March 27, 2023, Kazakhstan's First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar met with Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller in St. Petersburg, the Russian gas giant company said in a statement.
The two discussed prospects for interaction, in particular, within the framework of the cooperation roadmap implementation in the gas industry, signed in January this year between Gazprom and the Kazakh government, the statement says.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller in Astana on Friday. "Cooperation in the gas sector was discussed in detail at the meeting," Gazprom said then.
Gazprom and the Kazakh government in January signed a bilateral gas cooperation roadmap that envisages processing Kazakh gas at the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant, the possibility of supplies of Russian gas to Kazakhstan and future projects.
The leaders of Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan have been discussing the possibility of increasing Russian gas supplies to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in light of rising domestic consumption and exports to China. This may require the modernization of gas transportation infrastructure or even the construction of new pipelines.
