Liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipbuilding agreements with Korean companies have been signed by Qatar Petroleum (QP). The deals with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), and Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) will reserve a major portion of the “Big Three” South Korean shipyards’ LNG ship construction capacity for Qatar Petroleum through 2027.
With a value exceeding 70 billion Qatari riyals (approximately USD 19.2 billion), the agreements will secure more than 100 ships. For ongoing expansion projects in the US and Qatar’s North Field, the new LNG carriers will help satisfy fleet requirements.
Even during these extraordinary times, QP’s deals with the three Korean companies reflects the company’s commitment to the North Field expansion projects, Qatar’s minister of state for energy affairs said.
