Malaysia’s national energy company Petronas has started its LNG bunkering services by completing the first LNG bunkering delivery to the Pasir Gudang Port in Johor on November 9. Petronas supplied 1,150 tons of LNG to vehicle carrier ship Siem Aristotle from bunkering ship Avenir Advantage. The Avenir Advantage has a capacity of 7,500 cubic metres and was built by Keppel Offshore & Marine shipyard in Jiangsu province, China.
In October, Petronas hired the ship from a joint venture between Avenir LNG and MISC Berhad, called Future Horizon. Avenir Advantage will provide ship-to-ship LNG bunkering services and deliver LNG to small-scale customers in the domestic market. Malaysia has been developing LNG bunkering facilities since 2017 as it aimed at becoming Southeast Asia’s LNG bunkering hub.
