AlwaysFree: New Technologies To Slash Methane Emissions Tested By Exxon Mobil

Author: SSESSMENTS

To cut down on greenhouse gas emissions, Exxon Mobil Corp is conducting field trials of eight methane detection technologies, including satellite monitoring, the oil major said on Thursday. At nearly 1,000 sites in New Mexico and Texas, the pilot project is being carried out by using fixed-position sensors, planes, drones, and helicopters.

To identify solutions that can be shared with other operators in oil and gas, all deployment methods and technologies will be used by Exxon Mobil. To develop and recommend a solution to minimize flaring and methane emissions, a coalition formed by several oil and gas companies and trade associations in Texas last month.

Tighter regulation of methane also demanded by Exxon Mobil. For companies and lawmakers worldwide, the company offered up its own in-house rules as a model. Exxon Mobil laid out the guidelines it follows at a time when the growing pressure to reduce the environmental footprint faced by the industry from investors.
