To complete the final roughly 120-kilometre stretch of pipeline in Danish waters, the Nord Stream 2 has requested a permit allowing it to use pipe-laying vessels with anchors.
As pipe-laying firm Swiss-Dutch Allseas suspended work, work on the project stopped in December. The US sanctions are the reason for the suspended work. In the face of a new risk of sanctions, Denmark’s energy agency (DEA) did not say how the work would proceed. The agency’s decision, however, would be in line with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
A new bill expanding sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 announced this month by US senators. The bill is yet to be passed by Congress and signed by US President Donald Trump.
