AlwaysFree: Norway's Sverdrup Oil Production Suffers Outage

Author: SSESSMENTS

According to Reuters article published on February 6, 2023, Equinor (EQNR.OL) said on Monday it had halted oil production at its Johan Sverdrup Phase 1, the North Sea's largest producing field, due to a technical fault in a cooling system.

Sverdrup's Phase 2 is producing oil as normal, an Equinor spokesperson said.

Sverdrup 1 has a capacity of around 535,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd), Equinor data showed, while Sverdrup 2 can produce up to 185,000 bpd.

Power supply to the Johan Sverdrup field was reduced on Monday due to a technical failure, Nordic power exchange Nordpool said.

The outage is expected to last for 2-3 days, with a preliminary restart set for mid-day on Feb. 8, according to the Nordpool filing.
