Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Nova Chemical Corp. is suspending the construction activities in the company’s projects in Ontario and Alberta, Canada to focus on the most critical work.
In Ontario, Nova’s new AST2 polyethylene (PE) facility construction and the Corunna cracker expansion projects were adjusted to around 90% of the total construction workforce.
In Alberta, the company has suspended the furnace refurbishment project’s commissioning and construction activities.
The company’s manufacturing sites are still operational with no impact on product delivery despite borders being closed in the north and south. The chemical industry has been listed as an essential critical infrastructure in the US and an important place of work in Canada.
CEO Todd Karran commented, “We have adjusted PE and expandable polystyrene (PS) production to provide sufficient supply of resins for food packaging, medical supplies, and other high-demand goods.”
