AlwaysFree: Nova Chemicals Pauses Construction Activities On Spreading Coronavirus Disease

Author: SSESSMENTS

Nova Chemicals has implemented several safety measures within its sites following the coronavirus pandemic. Major cuts in construction activities are included in the safety measures. The company has reduced all its construction activities by 90 percent, to only those most essential.

To provide a sufficient supply of resins for food packaging, medical supplies, and other high-demand goods, the company has adjusted polyethylene (PE) and expandable polystyrene production. While continuing to progress its business-critical construction projects, Nova Chemicals has decided to pause construction activity to keep the worker safe.

In order to temporarily focus only on the most critical work, Nova’s construction work is being adjusted on its new AST2 polyethylene facility and Corunna cracker expansion projects in Ontario. Nova’s total construction workforce then will be reduced by approximately 90 percent.

The ethylene capacity of 816,000 metric tons/year currently registered by the Corunna cracker. Nova originally planned to bring the Corunna project online in late 2021.

Commissioning and construction activities have also been paused on Nova’s furnace refurbishment project located in Alberta.
