Pakistan is opening bids to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) in January as its indigenous production declines.
Pakistan LNG Ltd. is looking for bids to buy six LNG cargoes, each of 140,000 cu m, for delivery between January 8 to February 1. The last date for the submission is December 10, with the winner to be announced the same day.
The country’s gas consumption normally soar in December and January. However, this year, the deficit in supply versus demand is seen to rise as consumption jumps and its own production drops. Pakistan’s power sector is the best natural gas consumer, with the residential consumption and fertilizer sector following.
The country has some long-term purchase deal of LNG, but it still regularly taps the spot market.
