Mexico’s state-owned Pemex will continue crude oil processing at its 275,000-bpd Cadereyta refinery during repairs after a fire on July 23, sources familiar with the plant operations said. However, the company will stop processing gasoil in its fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit. The sources also said that gasoline and diesel output from the refinery had been already reduced.
The fire broke out at Cadereyta last week when workers were emptying tanks of refined products ahead of planned maintenance. The fire caused no injuries or fatalities and was put under control by July 24, municipal authorities said. The planned maintenance was initially scheduled for mid-August, but it was brought forward after nearby residents complained about clouds of yellow smoke from the facility.
