Indonesia’s state-owned refiner Pertamina will start trials of renewable diesel production at its 348,000 bpd Cilacap refinery in Central Java province by the end of November. Pertamina plans to process refined, bleached and deodorized palm oil to produce 3,000 bpd of D100 Green Diesel. The company hopes to double the D100 Green Diesel production to 6,000 bpd by early 2021, ahead of the initial schedule of June 2022.
Pertamina has already launched the production of 1,000 bpd of renewable diesel at its 170,000 bpd Dumai refinery in Riau province. The company signed a contract with Honeywell in September to utilize renewable diesel manufacturing technology at Cilacap and its 118,000 bpd Plaju refinery. Pertamina plans to produce 20,000 bpd of renewable jet fuel, diesel fuel, and LPG at Plaju by 2023. Pertamina’s renewable fuel project is part of Indonesia’s efforts to use 23% of renewable energy in 2025. It will also help reduce the country’s crude oil imports and support the domestic palm oil industry.
