PetroChina has upgraded its refinery in the city of Daqing in China’s northeastern province of Heilongjiang. The expansion included an additional refining capacity of 3.5 million tons/year designed to process Russian ESPO Blend crude oil, on top of the existing capacity of 6.5 million tons/year to process domestic Daqing crude oil grade.
The upgrade revamped the facility’s 1.2 million tons/year gasoline and diesel hydrotreating units and 1.2 million tonnes hydrocracker. It also included installing a series of production units, such as 2 million tons/year fluid catalytic cracker, a 600,000 tons/year gas fractionation unit, and two 20,000 tons/year sulphur recovery units.
After the expansion is completed, PetroChina’s Daqing refinery is expected to produce 280,000 tons/year of xylene, 260,000 tons/year of liquid hydrocarbon, 220,000 tons/year of toluene, and 180,000 tons/year of propylene to supply chemical producers in the region.
