Polish chemical maker Grupa Azoty pushed back the scheduled startup of its propane dehydrogenation (PDH) and polypropylene (PP) project in Police, Poland due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company now expects the project to start up in the first quarter of 2023, extended by three months from the initial timetable. Chairman Mariusz Grab also noted that as a result of the delay, the project’s remuneration had been raised to €33 million ($39 million).
The company states that construction of the€1.5-billion PDH-PP project is currently 32% complete. Constructors are presently conducting some works, including hydro-technical works, foundation work, and installing ethylene and propane tanks at the port of Police. Honeywell UOP is providing its technology for the 437,000 tons/year PDH plant. This plant will feed a downstream PP unit with a similar capacity which will use W.R. Grace’s Unipol PP process technology.
