Poland’s power producer PGE on Monday urged the European Union to include gas in its green investment label. PGE said that gas is a transition and should be considered environmentally sustainable. PGE generates most of its power from coal and plans to use gas as a transition fuel before shifting to renewables.
The EU is formulating a sustainable finance taxonomy that will define which businesses could be labeled green investments. The European Commission planned to finalize the rules in January. However, it was delayed after lobbying from companies and governments seeking a green label for gas.
