Swedish energy and biofuels manufacturer Preem AB has started the conversion of its Lysekil refinery to produce renewable fuels.
The application to change the current environmental permit will be planned before the end of the year. The investment decisions are scheduled for summer 2021 with the plant being operational by at the latest 2024.
Upon completion, the refinery would have the capacity to process up to 40% of renewable raw materials, which would be expandable. It also means that the Synsat plant would see a decrease of fossil raw material with the same percentage to be phased out.
The conversion is targeted to cut emissions through the value chain by around 1.2-1.7 million tpa of carbon dioxide, with the largest reduction would likely take place in road traffic.
