AlwaysFree: Project STOP Breaks Ground On New Waste Processing Facility In Indonesia

Author: SSESSMENTS

Project STOP, in collaboration with the Alliance to End Plastic Waste and the  Government of Jembrana Regency, in Northwest Bali, Indonesia, held a groundbreaking ceremony on a new waste processing facility on July 27. The project is the first solid waste management service in the regency.

The facility is expected to enter service by the end of 2020. It will be equipped with waste sorting and processing mechanism, residue treatment equipment, and other supporting infrastructure. The facility is designed to handle organic and non-organic waste from businesses and households. Besides, it will open new job opportunities for the community.

Project STOP was launched in 2017 by Borealis and Systemiq to create effective waste management systems in Southeast Asia that reduce maritime plastic pollution. In the next two years, the new facility in Jembrana will enable 150,000 households to get formal waste collection service, many for the first time.
