Qatar Petroleum has approached several Asian and European liquefied natural gas (LNG) buyers to offer some spot cargoes, three market participants said. Two of them said the company offered up to ten cargoes for April loading or delivery.
Qatar Petroleum’s unit Qatargas is India’s biggest long-term seller of LNG cargoes. Traders said that LNG suppliers are forced to seek alternative buyers after India, the world’s fourth-largest LNG importer, implemented nationwide lockdown, which prompted LNG importers to declare force majeure.
Tanker tracking data showed that LNG tanker Al Sahla is idling at Ras Laffan anchorage, the tanker was initially supposed to head to Hazira in India on April 1. Traders also informed that Thailand’s PTT recently bought two cargoes from Qatar Petroleum for $3.05-$3.15/MMBtu for delivery in May.
