Spanish energy giant Repsol and mechanical recycling specialist Acteco announced a partnership that will expand Acteco’s mechanical recycling capacity for polyolefins in Alicante, Spain. Repsol will use recycled polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) to produce its circular polyolefins plastics range designed to have high technical requirements for high-value applications. Repsol has a target to recycle the equivalent of 20% of polyolefins it produces by 2030.
Both companies have been cooperating since 2018 to support new circular economy models by recovering post-consumer polymers and reusing them for new added-value products in the packaging, automotive, construction, healthcare, and infrastructure sectors.
The partnership with Acteco will support Repsol to provide various grades of circular polyolefins and reach its commitments regarding recycled plastics. Repsol also pioneered other circular polyolefins initiatives, including developing recycling technology for polyurethane foam and chemical recycling of low-quality plastics.
