For the first time, Spain’s Repsol SA produced renewable hydrogen from the raw material of biomethane.
The manufacturing activity commenced at the company’s Cartagena Industrial Complex where 500 MWH of biomethane, instead of conventional natural gas, was utilized to produce 10 tons of renewable hydrogen. The process avoided the emission of about 90 tons of CO2.
The biomethane used as raw material was obtained from urban solid waste, proving Repsol’s commitment to the circular economy.
Repsol has executed industrial tests which will also be used as an example for developing the system of guarantees of origin for renewable gases to be implemented in Spain.
