Spain’s Repsol S.A. announced that it would manufacture advanced impact-resistant polymers by upgrading its one of its units in Tarragona.
The upgrading of the Tarragona unit would involve installing a new second reactor at one of its polypropylene (PP) production units in the chemical area of its industrial complex in Tarragona.
The project would cost EUR32 million (USD38.26 million) and is targeted to be ready for operation in 2021, to be the first of its kind in the Iberian Peninsula.
After the adaptation, the unit would be able to manufacture highly specialized polymers. The product will have great added value for the automotive sector due to their extraordinary resistance to impacts, positively affecting safety while also reducing the weight of the vehicles, which decreases their carbon footprint.
This project enhances the role of Repsol as a key supplier for the automotive sector and as a company that is committed to the environment, within the framework of its commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
