On Wednesday evening, South Africa’s commodities export hubRichards Bay port was hit by the second fire in a week.
The fire had been extinguished and no injuries were reported.
Some operations of operator Transnet’s Port Terminal were disrupted by the accident as the latest fire affected its conveyor system.
The operations at the Richards Bay Coal Terminal, Africa’s largest coal export facility, were unaffected. It is located across the bay from Richards Bay port.
Transnet is investigating the incident and another fire a week earlier at the port to determine their cause.
