Romania’s Rompetrol Rafinare said on Tuesday that it was close to completing repair works at its Navodari refinery which was shut following an explosion at its diesel hydrotreater unit on July 2. The unit has been technologically isolated, with the completion of the reconstruction and restart expected in 2022. Rompetrol Rafinare has also wrapped up most of the turnarounds of the site’s production units and completed technical checks to ensure a safe restart, slated for the end of October.
Rompetrol Rafinare is part of Dutch-based KazMunayGas International Group (formerly The Rompetrol Group) which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kazakhstan’s state-controlled energy company KazMunaiGaz Group. Rompetrol Rafinare owns two refineries in Romania which account for more than 40% of the country’s refining capacity. It is also the only producer of polymers in Romania.
