AlwaysFree: Russia’s Lukoil Continues Upgrade Of Stavrolen Petrochemical Plant

Author: SSESSMENTS

Andrey Khlopyanov, the President of Russian energy company PJSC Lukoil, on Thursday attended the ceremony to lay the first foundation stone for the second stage of the Gas Processing Unit (GPU-2) at the company’s Stavrolen petrochemical plant in the city of Budennovsk, Stavropol. The new unit is expected to allow the plant to utilise more ethane and natural gas liquids as a feedstock for pyrolysis to manufacture commercial products.

GPU-2 is the first unit to be constructed under the Stavrolen integrated development program. Lukoil intends to boost the capacity of pyrolysis units and produce a wider variety of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) at greater volumes. The program is expected to expand the plant’s ethylene production capacity from from 350,000 tons/year to 420,000 tons/year; polyethylene (PE) from 300,000 tons/year to 405,000 tons/year; and polypropylene (PP) from 80,000 tons/year to 120,000 tons/year. Lukoil did not disclose the timeline of the project.
