Saudi Arabia-led coalition, on late Saturday, intercepted two ballistic missiles fired by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi militias, which targeted the kingdom's capital, Riyadh, and the industrial city of Jizan in the south, Colonel Turki al-Malki, spokesperson for the coalition, said in a report by the Saudi Press Agency.
According to the report, the missile interception resulted in shrapnels scattering on some residential areas, which caused slight injury to two civilians. State-owned Al-Arabiya TV channel said Saudi Arabia's air defenses intercepted the missiles by using US Patriot missile defense systems.
Saudi Aramco expects to start a refinery in Jizan this year. The city is located near the border with Yemen and is often targeted by Houthi missile strikes. Houthi rebels frequently fire missiles into Saudi Arabia, and the last attempted strike over Riyadh was in June 2018. Saudi Arabia, which is leading a coalition of countries to fight Houthi, often intercepts and destroys missiles launched by the group targeting its cities and oil infrastructures.
